In Order Entry Maintainance there is an option to add Comment Codes. Is there a way to select comment codes during order entry and to make them print on a pick ticket?

If not, can anyone tell me what is the purpose of the comment codes?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

There are two comment codes on the order header. You can enter code in that are stored under the maintance option you mentioned. When entering an order, you can search and select these by code, saving having to enter the text in OE or you can type dirrectly into the two fields. As far as printing on the pick ticket, by default they do, if yours don't you have to use form maintance and add the shipping instruction 1 and 2.

Yes, that works. Unfortunately, I need about 5 lines of comments on each order. Any suggestions?

Do you own Flexibility? You could code up something to auto create order header or order line comments.

Sorry, no Flex. But thank you for the suggestion.

Another approach is to use the designer and unhide the user defined fields for the order header. Then right click on those fields, go to search name and type in OE-COMMNT-CD-2. This is the same search as shipping instruction 2 and will only bring over the 1st line of the comment code. In comment code maintenance, you would only want to populate the 1st line as well. You could then add the 5 user defined fields to any of the internal forms that you wanted them to print on.

If you wanted to type in the comments manually for an order; you would go to the line item page and while your not "in" a line, click on the comments button on the right hand side. This is for header comments.

kscheeler:

Thank you for your suggestion. I tried to implement it using user fields 3, 4 &5. There seems to be an issue with that. On the Order Enter screen, when I tab from user field 4 or to user field 5, Macola advances to page 2 of the order entry screen. I have tried changing the tab order and deleting the search names and re-entering them. What's wierd is that user field 3 works just fine.

(I already use user fields 1 & 2 for other data)

But anyway, thank you for the help.

It's advancing to the next field in the tab order once you select the item in the search. I had UDF 3,4,5 as my last 3 fields in my tab order. After I did the selection from #5, it brought me to page 2. I then changed my tab order and put the disc pct field as my last field and after selecting comments for 3,4,5 it brought me to the disc pct field.

I have added some standard comments that the order entry personnel can choose from in designer - it shows up under the order header and order line comments. The screen is OECMTMNT(in Progression). You would need to add the comments under values. Unfortunately, the person entering the order would still have to choose the comments. You can add as many as you need.
