I was doing some queries using various V$ tables and found a column in V$SqlArea called "Command_Type". I have searched thru the web and Oracle on-line documentation and still can not find out what these numbers stand for. Does anyone have a list of Command_Type numbers and what they stand for? Thank you.

Hi Roberts ,
here are the list of command_type options for the analyze command :
C (compute statistics)

E (estimate statistics)

D (delete statistics)

V (validate structure)
however , there is no list containing the type of arguments taht you want. Even metalink does not have such a list. But i am curious to know as to why you want this ! by the way , i guess you must be knowing that the numbers stand for the type of the SQL ....... eg. Select , Insert etc.

Interesting question. I wonder why Oracle makes it so difficult to find this documentation?

On my system I have values in v$sqlarea.command_type of 2, 3, 6, 7, 42, 44, 47, 48. The meanings of the first four are documented in
insert = 2 select = 3
update = 6 delete = 7

Command_type 47 apparently identifies an anonymous PL/SQL block. See, for example,
I failed to find any information on command_type 42, 44, or 48. Maybe someone can fill in the gaps.

If I query v$sqlarea for command types 42, 44, and 48 I get the following:

42 is various "alter session" commands.

44 is always "commit".

There is only one 48. It is the command "set transaction read only".
