Hi,

can anyone show me a command for copying lines from a text file please ?

I have a text file with 28,000 lines in it and I just want a few to test a program, so I did this

tail CIRP_APRIL.txt > oldfile

however, it has not quite worked !

Although the 10 records look the same, something is different and making the program core dump :(

tia,

There could be spurios characters at the end ?
Try getting the 11th-20th lines for your test
head -20 CIRP_APRIL.txt |tail > oldfile
