I have several spreadsheets (macro enabled) that I've placed a command button on to run the background VBA code. Last night, our corporate PC support geniuses ran some updates, which they never notify us about. Now the buttons are disabled. I've checked the usual macro security settings, none of which have been changed. I'm wondering if there are windows settings that could affect this. Anyone have any advice as to what I should look for?

Hi,

So you have several .xlsm saved workbooks that contain controls and macros, yes?

Your IT department did something that seems to have affected the function of your controls, yes?

Can you run ANY macro in any of these workbooks?

Are your controls referencing some resource on a network share? Could the network share have been modified?

Thanks for answering Skip.

Yes to each of your 1st two questions.

I can run the macro directly from within the module, but now by clicking the command button on the worksheet.

Absolutely nothing happens. It's as if the buttons have been grayed out.

Here's the fun part. I am in IT, but the folks that do the updates don't talk with us lowly programmers!

What kind of control? ActiveX, Forms?

In the Developer TAB is the Design Mode on?

Can you add a new button, assign the macro and click n run?

ActiveX button.
The design mode tab is NOT selected.
Cannot add a new ActiveX control - didn't try until you asked.

There is no TAB for Design Mode. There is an ICON on the Developer TAB???

Can you add a Forms button? Your comrades may have made ActiveX controls illegal, perhaps.

Sorry, typing without thinking.
You're right - no design tab. I did mean the icon on the developer tab.

I can add a forms button, but prefer the ActiveX.
What could they have done to make it "illegal"?

If I can explain to them what they changed (they may not know), I can possibly convince them not to do it again.

Thanks, Skip.
That link seems to report EXACTLY what I'm seeing.

I've forwarded it to our PC Support folks.
Waiting to see what action, if any, they will take.
