Why will Access let you put a command button on a report, and then not let you use it when you preview the report? I have searched Access help and I have come up with nothing! Maybe I am doing something really wrong! Can somebody help me see the light here?
Thanks,
Sera

Hmmm, I didn't know Access would even allow you to put a command button on a report at all. Reports are meant to display data only. No interaction. What are you trying to do with the command button?

If you want your user to interact with the data then use a form. Maq B-)

Access will allow you to add a command button in Report Design View. I don't want my user to interact with the data. I do want a button on a report that opens a different report. I recognize that there are many ways that I could implement this. What I am concerned about, is why does Access allow you to even add a command button in Report Design View if you cannot use it? Is this a bug? Am I making sense?

LOL, you're making perfect sense. Access on the other hand...

I'm not sure why Access allows you to create the button. I tried to create one myself just now on a report (Access97) and it created something like a dummy button. It showed up but the properties sheet didn't contain any of the event properties (on_click, on_mouseover, etc) that are present in forms.

I guess it will allow it to be created just because it's in the toolbox and Access doesn't have different toolboxes for each object. Maq B-)

Well, I thought maybe I was missing something...some functionality I was unaware of.
I also thought that it was possible that they (Microsoft) thought report design could be used to create prototypes (hence all the tools, yet no functionality)! I don't know! Thanks for responding!
