Hi,

I have been tasked to create communications room Layout.

I think Avaya rack with duplicated CM and G450(7) gateways should be
near PRI connection and have Cisco Core Switch rack beside Avaya
Rack. is this correct?

and we dont have to worry about Demarc room correct?

Thanks

What do you mean that 'you don't have to worry about the demarc room'? If you are implying that your buildings MPOE is not important, reconsider this since all your circuits (T1, analog etc) are coming through this room.

I'd run a 25 pair or two from the MPOE to your server room, depending on your capacity requirements. This will let you swing lines over with ease and without having to run new cables each time you change something.

As far as the position of the gateways in the rack, I'd try and keep it logical by assigning media-gateway #1 as the top or bottom of the stack and moving numerically from there.

It never hurts to have one data switch per rack, especially for cable management.

Thanks Randy!

What should be location of Avaya Rack in computer room?

Does it make sense to place it near PRI OR Avaya rack can be placed anywhere in the computer room?

Anywhere technically.

When you say near the PRI, are you saying 'Near the Smartjack/demarc'? What does this 'PRI' look like to you, physically?

I'd place your telecom stuff into one area, especially if you are using digital phones or analog phones. The extra wiring for all of these would make it make even more sense to 'isolate' these things.

I say isolate with the marks around it as you don't need a separate room by any means -- you just need somewhere the circuit based phones can be terminated too and maintain clean wire/cable management.

We have just 2 PRI coming in from telco with 7 G450's.

We have separate demarc and computer room. All Avaya servers will be in computer room.
