For years i've had to work in FPW 2.6 for my job. I now need to come up to speed on VFP 9 to have marketable skills. What is the best way to go about this? What books, videos, online classes, etc?

Time is of the essence on this!

Thanks, as always...

Hentzenwerke ( has a great line of books. The Fundamentals is particularly good for a FPW to VFP primer because it assumes some knowledge of FoxPro commands but goes over everything you need to know about VFP, including object orientation, form controls, the database container, etc.

In addition to Doug's suggestion, if you've been getting (or used to get) FoxPro Advisor, there are some really good articles for this stuff. Start with this one to see what you might want to read:

NullOp,

Allthough not particular for VFP9, have a look at '1001 things you wanted to know about VFP'.
Kind of 'bible' for many in here.
Than in addition try out : What's new in 9.
Have a look at the Hentzenwerke site as suggested by Doug Hennig. Samples of books can be downloaded there.

And last but not least.... this forum with lots of very helpfull wellskilled people.

Thanks Doug, Tamar and Bart! I'll be going over everything suggested as I make this voyage. I truly appreciate your help on this!

Also, I found Craig Boyd's Learning Visual FoxPro videos very useful if you want to learn on your own, but if you don't have too much time you could ask somebody who provides training and mentoring services.

Hi. Don't forget Foxtalk. I've learn almost everything from this newsletter

FoxTalk is a total waste. There are no new articles. FoxPro Advisor has been umm... discontinued. OK, technically, it has been folded into Databased Advisor and is now online only.

When did Advisor make *that* change?

(Shows how closely I've been paying attention. <g>)

Dan,

It was fairly recent and apparently made without notification.

Dan - I just got an email from Christa at Advisor about the change late last week. There is a notice on the Advisor site about it, but I'm not yet clear about what they're doing to inform subscribers. Since I'm already on the road that will eventually take me to Southwest Fox, I probably won't know a whole lot more until I'm back in the office.

Ok.
You're right.
Foxtalk is not what it was a long time ago, but I think that you can subscribe and have access to all the old articles of past letter (in pdf format).

OOP is VFP 9 and it's a very big change. I've learn a lot with "Object Oriented in Visual Foxpro" from Savannah Brentnall
