I have a ComboBox for a Social Security #. It displays AAA\-AA\-AAAA;; before and after but in the dropdown list AAAAAAAAAAA. I have looked at all the property settings and even compared them to other application ComboBoxes but have been unable to find the one that would change this. Although not a critical feature, I'm frustrated at not being able to find the solution. When the query is run the results are also AAA\-AA\-AAAA;;_. Only in the dropdown, AAAAAAAAA. The SSN field in the table also has the input set for AAA\-AA\-AAAA;;_

Anyone with an answer?

I cannot recreate your error. I have a field in a table, SSN, with input mask. I then even created a query to pick off the SSN and used this as input when I created a combobox with the wizard. Within the dropdown, the SSN is formatted.
Maybe you can first delete the combobox that you have and start all over and explain each step you took so we know what you did and how your SSN is stored.
Also, state the version of Access you're using.

I think I found the problem. When you created the combobox using the wizard, did you check "Store the characters" option? When you store the SSN's without the characters, the dropdown shows no formatting. So, just recreate your combobox with the other option.

Thanks for the answer but;
I'm not getting an option to "Store the characters", when I create the combo box. I'm selecting a record on the form based on the Combobox. I'm using access 2003.

Duh. My mistake. When you create the Input Mask in the table design. Sorry.

By the way, why do you have AAA\-AA\-AAAA;; as the input mask? A's allow letters. Having worked at Soc. Secur. I never saw an SSN with letters. Shouldn't it be:
000\-00\-000;0;_? The 0 for the second parameter stores the characters. The _ is a placeholder for data entry.

O, I changed it to 000\-00\-000;0_ but it made no difference. The SSN shows up everywhere with the dashes but not in the dropdown. It's not a critical issues just a curiosity. Probably not worth the time to fiqure out.

Thanks for trying.

The data you ALREADY have stored as 111111111 will remain that way. You'll have to reenter it with the correct input mask. But any new data will be stored with the format.

Makes sense, I'll have to wait for the user to add some records.
thanks

Just noticed in your post you had 000\-00\-000;0_
Probably a typo, but make sure you have the other semicolon
000\-00\-000;0;_
