Hi!
I work on ID 2.02 xp, and would like to know if there is a possibility to com bine 2 files together, what I mean by that is: I have a file with about 164 pages, at page 104 I would like to insert 8 pages from another indesign file, is there a possibility to do that or not.

Thanx in advance
Mechel

Look into the 'book' feature of InDesign. File>New>Book

Why is everyone in this forum responding to me as picklefish?

You can also insert pages where you want your 8 inserted pages put on your first document, then go to your second ID document, select everything you want brought over (by clicking and dragging everything on the page) from the pages you want to have inserted, right click and select the 'group' function, copy it, and then paste it into your first document. Then if you want to edit anything, you can just right click it again to 'ungroup' the items you just brought over. I have done this in the past, on a page by page basis and found it a quick and easy way to preserve your formatting.

Hope that helps?

Thank You all!

I would just like that adobe shouldn't be that complicated and should have the feature of Microsoft Word Insert>File! Simple as that! and you shouldn't have to create a 'book' etc.

But thanx anyway

Here's a much easier way.

You might have to change to Pages Palette Options to small icons in order to see what you are doing.

Open the main document (1).

Open the document you want to copy (2) and make the window smaller so you can see (1) behind it.

In document (2), open the pages palette & click on the icon of the first page you want to copy, hold down shift & click on the last page you want - they will all turn blue.

Let go of the shift key and click your mouse on one of the blue pages, hold down the mouse key & drag over on top of (1). You'll see a little fist icon as you drag.

It will look as if only one page or spread is copying, but when you click on (1), you will see the copied pages have all been added at the bottom.

Click on the 1st added page, shift, click on the last, let go of the shift, touch one of the blue pages & drag them all up to insert them between 104 & 105 - little arrows will appear before, after or in between the pages to let you know where you are. Let go of the mouse button & your copied pages will now all be exactly where you want them.

Unfortunately, the pages are always added to the bottom and your have to reposition them - you can't just add them right between 104 & 105 to begin with.

Oops, I'm working in InDesign CS and just realized you are in 2.0.2 so perhaps my method won't work for you.
