I am designing a basic report with the following fields:

Name, Concentration, pH, Category

Issue:
this is currently showing a new row for any change that occurs in any of the above values. I would like to stay on the same row for each name/concentration/pH set and add a "category 2" column. Example:
Name Conc. pH Category Category
acetate 0.1 M 4.2 buffer salt

Currently, there are two rows, each with a different category. How can I combine these (I'm using v. 10)

Thanks from an absolute beginner!!

Hi

If you only have 2 Categories you can cheat a little.

1)group your report by name

2) move the (Name Conc. pH ) at the footer of the group

3) right click the Category field from the detail section and insert summary choose maximum calculation and add it to the group footer. Repeat the process but the second time choose minimum.

Suppress the detail section

and you should have 2 details per row.

Great tip ... thanks. However ... there may be up to 7 categories (unlikely, but 3 isn't unusual);
perhaps I can use some variation of your procedure?

I'll give it a shot.

You could insert either the NthMostFrequent or the NthSmallest summary instead of maximum/minimum and increment N by 1 each time up to 7.
