LOL HELP! I am a FPC student who is trying to get information on Solaris vs NT Operating Systems. We need cold hard facts to make a comparison and write paper on which one is best. Of course this will be difficult, but we need to get some good tech data to compare. Any suggestions??? You all managed to help the last time and I hope you can do it again. Personal opinions backed with facts are also welcome. Thank you all in advance. Row - a life long learner.

I know for a fact, most RBOCs, ISPs & CLECs use Solaris (SUN) as there main backbone for all critical links. Including: SS7 Networks, LNP, STP gateways, A-D Links and LongHaul circuits -- to name just a few. These are systems that would hurt millions of phone calls, data streams, and the like if they go down. This stands true for: Lucent Technologies, Nortel and Cisco.
On the flip side, most every company listed has an NT box for their internal networks.
It may not be an ultimate "Which is Best" but perhaps "Which is best for the job."

Personal exp - most users are too dumb to use computers but they must use them these days to do the job. Therefore Sun OS are out.
Must use Microsoft is the only thought going through the heads of the Board. If you use MS on your desktop, you gotta use it on the network right?
Hence Sun doesn't account for the same market share as MS.
Personal exp 2 - NT is easy on the hardware, easy to set up and looks the same as most desktops. It may not be the best, but familiarity breeds...
