Hello All,
I have a Modem (Hayes Optima 144) connected to COM1 which worked fine on this computer (Dell Optiplex) when it was running Win2k. I have since installed Windows XP Pro and now the modem will not work on Com1 at all. It will however work fine on com2????

Does anyone have any idea why this would be?

Could something else be sharing an IRQ with Com 1? Perhaps Com 3 or a HotSync application?

No, there doesn't appear to be any conflicts....

Com 3 uses the same IRQ as Com 1. Do you have a Com 3 (real or software related). Do you have HotSync running? Both of these situations (as well as others)can take over a com port, without showing any errors in Device Manager. I just thougt of another app that will do this - Do you have XP's UPS service running?
