Hi,

I have bent two of the pins in the COM port of my laptop. How difficult is it to replace this port?

Thanks,

Deek

they are generally soldered to the mainboard, so you would have to replace the entire mainboard in most cases. a more practical alternative might be to buy a PCMCIA com port card and install that instead (disable existing com port in the system setup first).

How badly are the pins bent???? IF they aren't too terrible mangled, try using a small jewlers screwdriver to bend it back into alignment with the other pins. Then use a small pair of needle nose pliers to straighten out the bend(s). I've fixed pins on several occassions. You just have to be really carefull and take your time.
