COM objects or Java objects

Okay, I'm new to using COM and Java objects and I have a project where it is possible to use either COM or Java objects. I'm using CF 4.5. Which would be better to use? Also, what does CF do with hashmaps and if someone asks about .net objects is that the same as COM? Totally new to this kind of thing. Someone please point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.
