Hi,
I have a user who needs some data added to his report. The current report takes up at max about 3/4's of a page. I need to create a subreport and put the rest of the info. at the bottom. I created a subreport and inserted it on Report Footer. Here is that catch. The subreport only has 2 fields. Takes maybe 1 inch of width. There are at most 18 entries for this sub-report everyday. I want to be able to print 6 entries across with a max of 3 down. If I just prints straight down (Eg. all 18 entries) the report will go onto another page and defeat the purpose. Can you add columns to a sub report???? I tried but it doesn't do anything, I somehow need to tell it that my page is only 1 inch long so it can break to the next column. Is this feasible?
Thanks,

Subreports with columns must display Across then Down. YOu can get around this but it is a bit more complex.

dhoomkom,
Thanks. It makes sense what you are saying. This will be a snap now. I just didn't want to keep spinning my wheels.
I really wanted them to go down and across but this will definitely work. Hey, either that or the user can go back to writing it down by hand.. OUCH!

Thanks again.

If you have a limited or fairly static number of records in the subreport, you can use Down then Across. You would need to size the subreport control and not allow it to grow.

You have wet my appetite again. Yes, it is static. Anywhere from 0 to 18 records. I can definitely print 6 across, so at max 3 down. I need about 1 inch of paper. The problem I had when I was doing this was I could resize the subreport. Where is this done? When I run the subreport standalone, it prints all the records in 1 column because they can obviously fit on 1 page. I couldn't find where to tell it only print 1 inch. The page setup has to be set to 8 1/2 by 11. What am I missing?????
Thanks for your help. If you respond today, I will not try till tomorrow, going home...... and eating..... lunch. :)

Set the vertical size of the subreport control on the main report. Don't allow the subreport control to grow.

Duane,
I have another report with subreports. Question, if my 1st report(main) has columns(2) and my subreports have columns(3) and (8) respectively as well. How do I get my subreport to start on left side of the page. In other words, my 1st sub report only comes out correctly if the prior report (main with 2 columns) is printing on column 1. When it ends with data in column 2 the subreport tries to print starting from the middle of the page and I lose 4 inches of the report.
Note: I have both subreports back to back in the footer. I am also trying to reference fields from the sub report. (NEW POST), can this be done?

I couldn't answer your question without creating something similar to your reports, tables, queries, etc and then trying lots of different stuff including page break controls and messing with keep together and other properties.

To be honest, I don't have time to do all of that and would expect that you might try it until you have exhausted every possible combination of properties and page breaks.

If you have a new question, please start a new thread so others will view it and possible search on it later.
