Columns named 1,2,3 instead of A,B,C 1

I have a similar problem.
My Excel always starts up in R1C1 mode.
I can do 'Tools / Options / General / uncheck R1C1 reference style' and it will stay in A1 mode until I close Excel. When I start Excel again the blank sheet is back to R1C1 mode. I have killed the Excel*.xlb file and removed all files from the XLSTART subdirectory to insure no Aut
pen macros are affecting it. Any Suggestions?
