I have created a custom view for my project file to only contains those fields I want to see for a specific management report. When I created the custom view I changed the column width settings so that I could fit all the fields on the page. When I close the file and re-open it the column widths automatically expand out to fill the page rather than stay at the settings I chose when I created the view. How can I fix this?

Did you change by dragging the widths of the columns or did you edit the table definition?

If you edited the table definition then I've found some issues if it is the table behind the active view so I generally

View > Gantt (assuming that it is the view you want to change)
View > Table:XXXX (to see which table is being used)
View > Calendar (to switch away from that table)
View > Table > More tables... and select the table identified in XXXX above; click on the Edit button.

btw ... which version are you using?

I've edited the column widths two ways:

- By changing the widths in the custom view using View > Table > More Tables > Edit
- By viewing the data using View > Table: XXX and changing the column widths by dragging the edges of the columns

The problem is when I view the data using View > Table:XXX and then close the file. When I re-open the file the view is still on the Table:XXX View but the columns automatically adjust out past what I set them to when I created (or last edited) the Table:XXX.

How can I stop the columns from re-adjusting and stay to the widths I identified in the custom table definition?

Please advise the name of the table used in the view (View > Table:xxxx) what is in XXXX?

Please advise what values you have for each of the fields in the table (and the table name).

What version are you working with?

The Table is 'Table:ENAT Status Report'

It consists of the typical tracking fields (name, actual start/finish, % complete, duration, baseline start/finish, and several custom fields.

I have the fields set to specified widths so that enough of the schedule can be viewed when I'm printing the 'view' to support a management status meeting.

I'm using MSProject 2003. If I select the view, print the report, and close the file the next time I open the file it defaults to that view but stretches the fields back out to their default settings (i.e. name field goes from 40 to 118).

Well, I've never seen anything like that. What happens when someone else opens the file? Do you have any macros in the file? in Global.mpt?

The same thing happens when others open the file and it defaults to that view. If I open the file and it defaults to a different view, and then I select that view, the column widths are OK (match how I set them). It only happens for the view shown when the file is opened. What I mean is it happens for other custom views/tables as well (whichever one is the default view shown when the file is opened).

I'm at a loss then. Sorry I couldn't help on this one.

Is there anyone else that could help me with this problem?
