HELP!!!!

We've migrated our reports from v4 to v6 Impromtu and one of them, a crosstab type, has columns of months as numberics which in v4 were overwritten by JAN, FEb etc but on v6, the column properties, Column Title Text has the correct JAN, FEb etc but it won't come out on the report all I get is 1,2,3 etc.

..any ideas??

JIm,

Convert it back to a list frame report and check the definition of the month column. It is the value returned by the definition, not the column title, that becomes the column title in a crosstab report. If the definition is something that evaluates to a numeric, you will have to translate it into the alpha text you want. As a kicker, you may have to create this later one as an additional column and group by this after the current month number grouping, otherwise you would have DEC before JAN, as it would present them in alphbetical order. You can remove the month number from the crosstab output to get the page results you want.

Hope this helps,

Dave Griffin

Dave,

Thanks, it very nearly works!!

The problem now is when I convert back to crosstab, I keep getting a Dr Watson error.

I've got the months on the cross tab somehow underneath the Alpha equivalents then I convert back to a list, change the groupings and then get the Dr Watson when trying to go back to a crosstab.

Jim,

Dr Watson errors are a plague of Impromptu. I usually turn it off, so I can at least diagnose the underlying Impromptu problem. The standard drill for these intermittent crashes is to clear your temp working directory for Impromptu, defrag your hard drive and restart your computer. Fortunately the instability seems to plague report design more than report execution. If you can get the report to run as you build and change it, the end users can usually run it without issues. Occasionally you have to recreate the report from scratch.

Good luck,

Dave Griffin
