It appears that crystal reports automatically selects a standard set of colors depending on the quantity of what it is showing. For example, for data 40,30,20,10 - 40 is always red on the chart, 30 always yellow and so forth. Is there a way so that the report chooses the color based on change of and not quantity? I have a chart that shows the top 10 categories and i have a total of 300 categories. The only way so that i can make sure that each category is the same color is to go to the color highlight option and manually set the color for each category? Is this the only way?

I hate to bump this but i am in desperate need so if anyone has any ideas i would greatly appreciate it, i will not bump this again...i just thought id give it another shot.

Could you describe how you would like the bars to be coloured ideally?

For example are you only showing the top 10 and do you want specific colours for categories? Or are you showing many categories and want only the topN coloured a certain way?

Please describe in as much detail as you can then I will test out some methods to control.

There is a database of 300 applications. I have a chart that just shows the top 10 categories for whatever date range is entered. I want each category to have a specific color so that if i create another chart to show a different date range the categories on that chart will have the same colors as the categories on the first chart. It doesnt matter what the color is as long as they are consistent and the same across multiple charts. This will make it easier to see at a glance which categories are in the top 10 or not when compared to another date range.

I hope that makes sense :) Thank you in advance for all your help.

One last question! :)

Which version of Crystal are you using?

For example Crystal XI has a colour highlight feature, simple right click the chart -> Chart Expert -> Colour Highlight.

There you can define which specific colour you prefer for each specific application shown.

Oops - I see you are already using that feature.

Indeed it is the only way unless you have another way of categorising the applications for example and basing the colours on the groups (perhaps type of application etc) rather than the individual application.
