Hi all,

I have a small web design company and clients have requested
some printed media themed with their websites.

My main problem is when importing jpgs (or any other graphic for that matter) into corel they seem to go quite dark.

Solid colors seem to be the worst. Is there an importing preferences within corel to correct this problem ?

The printing company that I use has requested files exported to pdf from corel.

any help would be appreciated. :)
Thanks Alchemyst

Check out the colour manager in Draw, depending on thiese settings can change the way stuff views.

Ok i messed around with the colour manager
turning off the import colour manager
copy and pasting from paintshop pro to corel
the rgb to cmyk conversion still seems to darken the blue specificaly
i have read heaps regarding the different GAMUTS
but am not able to change this result.

Snag is - is knowing which is the correct colour. If you have a 'known cololour' ie Pantone you can compare with a colour chart, regardless of colour model ie rgb/cmyk a monitor is always rgb with the colour manager giving its best guess. Can your printing company give you a proof?

Hi Alan thanks for your advice so far,

The printer that i use is interstate which makes it time consuming to pass proofs between us.
Generally he sends me a .gif file as a proof.

But this is the problem when i send the artwork which i have created in paintshop pro (i use this program as it is what i have become used to with designing web graphics)
When imported into corel the colours shift to a darker colour.
When printed from Paintshop pro with my colour laser printer
(Minolta QMS magicolour 2300w)the file prints exactly as created.

When printed via corel the colours are darker.

I got corel draw to see if i could see why this was happening.(no luck so far just confusing myself)

I would like to be confident that a proof that i print from my colour laser would be a close match to the final print.
i do understand there are differences between card stock, Gloss and matte and such.

The printing company is using a
HEIDELBERG SPEEDMASTER 5 COLOUR
with PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM UNCOATED

The only solution the printer could come up with was to learn how to create the artwork in corel draw.

If this was my main line of work this would be fine but i have enough just keeping up with the web design stuff

Thanks and regards Jeremy

Your printer is probably right in as much generate in Corel for printed output as the colour manager is not bad at all screen view to printed output. For web stuff I guess you are using palleted web safe colours for logos which will view differently on screen. No reason why you shouldn't use Paintshop Pro to create your logo/photo as rgb and import the file into Draw* use tiff (*I would import into PhotoPaint)set the colour manager in Draw and Corel Paint with generic profiles, alter gamma etc if required in CorelPaint, change to cmyk there and then put that into Draw for additional text etc. You can export to pdf from Draw but I would use either Distiller/Acrobat or Jaws pdf Creator for this. Don't be surprised if the pdf colours view differently in Reader though.

Thank you Brushman,

I just printed a file from paintshop pro (RGB) and the same file, (cmyk), through corel and there is minimal colour difference.
Again thanks for your help.

Colour management ie what prints is the same or similar to what views is one of those things that causes potential problems for virtually everybody regardless of equipment and budget, I hope your finished project comes out as you expected, no reason why it shouldn't and with a few jobs of this nature under your belt you'll worry about it less.

Alan
