Created a logo in Illustrator, used Reflex Blue. Saved as eps. Placed in InDesign and Reflex showed up in the palette as Reflex Blue letter "C". Imported another graphic, which was defined as Reflex Blue in Illustrator, it comes in to the color palette Reflex Blue letters "CV". In other words, there are TWO Reflex Blue colors and they both show up in the print color separations palette. How do I fix this? Thanks ... grateful Kenny

...two options:

1. Open image with 'CV' in illustrator and remove the 'V' from the name via the swatches palette. Ensure both 'C' and 'CV' versions of reflex have the same CMYK equivalent color so proofs look fine.

2. Leave as is and in the ink manager in indesign (swatches palette flyout menu), ink alias the 'CV' color to the 'C' color or vice versa.

...be careful with ink alias colors though, i have encountered trouble with images before not printing correctly, that occasion though did involve the more complex scenario of an imported pdf with transparency...

On the print Menu go to to the INK MANAGER and map one of the colours to the other.

You can do this on the PDF export also.

Thank you all .. got me out of a real mess today. Sincerely, grateful Kenny

I understand the worries with this sort of thing. But I might add this.

Usually a spot colour is to add a 5th colour to a print job, or a 6th. It could be a 2 colour job. Or a 3 colour job. In anyway it's not a 4 colour process (CMYK). So this colour is important. But it really is only important if you're going to print it lithographically or gravure et al printing methods. But I don't think you need to worry so much about it.

If you send the job to the printers and tell them that you know that 2 colours come up with virtually the same name and that they should be on the same plate/film then they should be able to make this happen at no additional cost to you. But that's not what I had to add.

I just don't know why they don't standardise the pantones across the apps. It's only a colour library. Surely it can be done?
