I have heard that Illustrator has the capacity to create positives or proofs by using the separation setup dialog box. My question is the following: Do I have to do anything special so that it becomes enabled for me to go into the dialog box? Because right now it is grayed out or disabled. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Using Illustrator 9 on WinXP

Thanks in advance,
Jerry

Number 1 you must have a postscript printer. If you have one, there will he postscript versions of your printers drivers available for download or already on your comp. Go into your printers properties and update the driver. Now goto your separation setup, click on select PPD (postscript printer driver). Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\spool\drivers\x32x86\... and in one of x32x86's subfolders should be a file with your printer name and .ppd after it.

Thank you so much, it was exactly what I needed to know. I have Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and can use its distiller to view the separation dialog box. Thanks for the info once again...
