I'm working on a web application where we want to display a large number of lines (about 12) on a graph with unique colors to differentiate them. Once you get through the basic red-green-blue-orange-yellow it starts to get funky.

The other variable is the background colour.

Anyone know of a resource that could offer some help on choosing a colour palette and background color to get good contrast?

thanks

We had a similar problem with ugly results
Our solution was to use different shades of the same colour. We used blue but the actual colour would depend on the rest of the page.
Hope this helps

Thanks Keith. Right now I'm looking at using two shades for each of the 5 or 6 colours we use. One shade in your basic blue/green/red/etc, another shade more iridescent.
