I am using the photoshop tool to set up my CRT monitor for correct color, brightness and contrast. One adjustment that it says to make is to adjust contrast so an inner black square is just short of being black. I adjusted so that the black inner square changed color ever so slightly.

However, the monitor still shows too much red and is still too bright based on what an Epson 2200 prints. Does anyone have any tips on setting up the CRT?

I assume you are referring to adobe Gamma? What monitor color profile did you select? Try running it again (you will find it in control panel) and use a different profile, sRGB for instance is the standard.

What video card are you running, that is also a possible cause. And you have to realise that no matter how well calibrated your system is, you will never really print exactly what you see on the monitor.

Also, make sure that you are working in RGB mode and printing from RGB. If you change your document to CMYK to print, it will throw ink jet printers color off.

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try it again. The video card is an ATI AIW 9700 pro. I'm not looking for an exact match. Just enough so that the print looks reasonably close to what I'm seeing on the screen. Right now, the people look like boiled lobsters to get enough red in the print. No, I am not using CMYK.

viol, do I know you from such forums as APSL?

I have been known to lounge around....
