I have just started to use unified messaging with the fax tools. Is there a setting to send a fax in color?

I understand that McAfee 8 is causing problems with unified messaging. My vendor says this is a known problem and Nortel does not yet have a solution. Anyone have any info? We use McAfee 8 and although we have only a few PCs set up so far, unified messaging is working well.

Didn't know there was such a thing as a color fax machine. I don't think it's possible.

Only issues I've run into with McAfee is if the software is blocking SMTP port 25. If you try to forward a message using the UM client and port 25 is blocked, the client can't forward the message to the BCM.

I have harware faxes that operate both in color. I was hoping there was at least a way to fax to an email box in color.

Thank you for the port 25 info. I would not have found that. I will come back and report if that is the answer.

Learn something new every day. Didn't know there was a color fax out there.

Thank you biv343. Have a star.

McAfee VirusScan 8.0i has, by default, some limited port blocking capability built into it. A default port block is Port 25, which is the SMTP or E-mail port.

The reason for this block is to prevent viruses that have their own SMTP engine from sending mass mailings from machines they infect. This is a preventative measure to stop unknown viruses from spreading.

The port block does allow specific executable to send email, most notibly outlook.exe, pegasus.exe, and other well know email programs.

The problem comes in when a new, hitherto unknown program that uses port 25 to legitimately send email is added to a client machine. The software does not know the difference between a legitimate program and a virus. However, the software does have the ability to add specific executables to the exclusion list that outlook.exe and pegasus.exe are on.

Knowing the machine name, you are able to view the McAfee error log. That tells you the executable being blocked. Add the executable name to the exclusion list, and your problem id solved.

The program name involved is nmquick.exe. Keep this in mind because if the program name changes, the process will fail to work again, and you will need to add the new executable name to the exclusions list.

And here's a star for the good info about McAfee. I had fiddled with the exclusions list a while back, but didn't know about the error log. Never would have guessed nmquick.exe was the file.

I've been out of the desktop arena for too long I guess.
