I selected a background color for a specific photo in PS and specified the same on the webpage (in html) where it is to be contained . When the final webpage is viewed there is a slight difference in the color CCFFFF. Why is this and how can it be remedied? I use PS elements on Mac. Thanks!

Hmm.. just tried it myself with jpg and got the same result.
gif on the other hand is clear.. Any chance you can save to gif??
Not too sure as to the reason why, as this is a websafe hex.

Will look into this one

Web browsers typically do not use color management/profiles. I am not familiar with the Elements line but the regular version of Photoshop uses color management. This may be the reason for the shift.

You can force this same color by creating a background image of the same file type as the foreground image - - and using the same color defined in Photoshop.

You might also try using the 216 color websafe colors pallette. However, there are discrepencies in color reading (as well as other things) among browsers and even versions of the same browser

To make sure a color matches, it's easies to make square or rectangle in PS and save as a 1 color gif. Then use that gif as the background image for the whole page. The size of such an image is quite small and does not hurt download time much. Depending on you web design app, you can make a small image repeat so as to form a solid background. PNG can also be used, but more browsers support gif.

As Jim Oblak said, make sure to disable any color management.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

Thanks for the help. I'll try a gif and see if that works. If not, I'll try some of the other tips.
