hi everyone, i am new to off set printing so bare with me, my question is that when i print out a page of my document from indesign on my home printer which is cmyk , the colors are different from what i expect which i understand is normal because of different monitors etc. it was mainly the black i noticed as it has a almost blue tinge to it. i am wondering if is because i have set all my photos to my off set printers settings in photoshop therefore when i print out on my home printer they would be different? any help is appreciated...cooper

Next to font problems, managing colour is one of the biggest hassles that desktop publishers and printers face. So you're not alone.

Much depends on your home printer, it's quality and resolution. If it's just for comps, then it's not that big a deal anyway. (I assume you're going to get colour acetates for proofing from your offset printer before you go ahead with the run?)

There are so many other variables as well:
* Colour temperature of your monitor;
* Ensuring images are in CMYK instead of RGB;
* ICC colour profiles for your monitor, and adjusting them to match your printing contractor;
* Compression variables when using TIFF images...

... the list goes on and on.

Talk to your printing contractor to ensure your colours will be OK when printed on the offset. He/she will likely be able to steer you in the right direction to ensure best quality.

Good luck!
