Hi all,

I asked this question in the Linux forum but no-one seems to have an answer so I thought maybe someone here would be able to help.

--------------------------------
At work I have to use an MS box for my desktop for a couple of reasons, the main one being that all mail is handled by an exchange server that pushes the mail each users PC in real time.  It isn't IMAP or POP as far as I can tell but it acts *like* IMAP in the way it works.  Does anyone know of a way of interfacing with the exchange server from my linux machine so I can collect my mail?  I can't use POP or IMAP unfortunatly as it is company policy for us to use this current system.
--------------------------------

Does anyone here have any ideas what protocol outlook uses to collect messages from an exchange server or how a third party program can go about interfacing in the same way?

Thanks
Will.

Echange can interface with many 3rd party mail programs and the UNIX OS also, I don't use the UNIX elephant(hehe) but OUTLOOK 2000 will like TCP/IP but can also use IPX/SPX and netbeui BUT of course these leave you system vunerable to attack.
MS Echange 5 Resource kit has many utilities to enable and simplify the process, (although i hate to admit it) and is good.

Thanks. The mail does initially come in to a Linux mail server where it is relayed through the firewall to an exchange box. Unfortunatly I only have client access to this, the admin is done by a BOFH network admin and he won't make any changes. I heard fetchmail might work, but I am not sure. I will have a look into it. Thanks
for the help :)
