Is the service type you programmed in the Dial Plan Routing Table set to "All Services"? We typically use this table to match, add and delete digits on inbound DID calls, but you can also use it to send certain types of calls into oblivion.
Is this collect call from a payphone? A lot of payphones use fly-by-night CLECs that have questionable billing strategies. A tremendous number of complaints have been sent in regarding collect calls to DID numbers. And lots of companies have policies that specifically prohibit the acceptance of collect calls. Perhaps the caller's provider is the one preventing the call from completing.
Originally, the collect call was coming from a prison. I know there are specific rules receiving calls from prisons. Customer also tried it from a pay phone to no avail. I will look into what you guys said on Monday. Thanks.
Please note: It won't be announced and you won't hear a recurring "beep", but it IS understood that all calls from prison are recorded. Keep that in mind if such a call manages to make it through.
Well, there is an old option from Pacific Bell in California to block Collects and Third Party calls, the USOC is TBEA, or Toll Billing Exception type A. This can be placed on any line or DID number block by service order.
You can also instruct the company employees to refuse Collect calls.
This is a little known option that has been around since the Bell Sysytem days! GTE/Verizon has one but I forget what they called it.
I put this option on all DID numbers and lines we used for Paging when I worked at the Paging company. It was quite effective in reducing the fraud billed calls. As long as the TBEA was on the account, if a Collect call showed up on the bill I would have the service rep remove it and charge it back to the originating party. At times, I did have a few problems with other LD companies that billed separately. But in the present climate of CLECs etc, I am not sure how they handle them. You should check with your service provider about this option.
I've gotta know what you do for a living! You're amazing when it comes to answering all these service provider type posts. And thanks for being here! I appreciate it.
Well, in a nut shell I worked for Western Electric in the early 1970s, then later I worked for an Interconnect company called Panoramic Audio in Irvine, then for 17 years I worked for a Paging company until the Dot Bomb and they layed off the network folks in California. I handled all the telco in CA, did all the service orders (SORD, CESAR, CABS, ServiceManager) and coordinated cutovers, was involed in area code relief planning, etc. It was very exciting, always busy!
