I have to manage about 15 drives (local and network) from my desktop. When ever I open Windows explorer, it's insistent on opening multiple folders on the "C" drive. I want it to open collapsed so I can immediately find the drive I need (they can all fit in the window without scrolling or manually collapsing the windows.

I know there is a regestry tweak or a command line sequence.

??

Thanks

You could create a shortcut for the command:
explorer.exe/n,/e,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

That should open a tree something like:

Desktop
|
+-- My Computer
| |
| +-- Floppy (A:)
| |
| +-- Local Disk (C:)
| |
| +-- Compact Disk (D:)
|
+-- My Network Places
|
+-- Recycle Bin
|
+-- Internet Explorer

I don't seem to have that problem. The only thing that I can think of is that under Tools, Folder Options, View, I have "Remember each folder's view settings" checked. Don't know if that's it but maybe worth a shot.

good luck
gallows

The Tools, Folders desn't "stick, and thanks for the Microsoft selection, but the first one (explorer.exe /n,/e,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}works the best and does exactly what I was looking for. The only change needed was adding a space between explorer.exe and the "/n"

Of course if I knew how to set up the numbers (and knew exactly what they represented for other combinations).... A good while back I saw a number of combinations for opening say the Windows directory on C: or your data folder on the network, etc Can't find them now of course!
Thanks ALL!!

Those "CLSID" codes are listed in the Registry. The one mentioned, HKCR\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} refers to "MY Computer"; there are other codes for My Network Places, etc.

OK Tony, thanks

I did some more digging and experimenting and found a few ways to make it work, not nearly as elegant as yours, however. Among some old stuff I dug up I found one solution that used %WINDIR% but adding or removing it made no noticable difference. For example:

C:\WINNT\Explorer.exe /e,/root, \\server\Files\Admin01\Office01\MyPrivate

Opens a double window (I HATE single panes) with the folders only on left starting at the (network drive) "MyPrivate" level and the folders AND ROOT files for the network drive "MyPrivate" on the right.

Thanks again
