Hi guys,

I got this question in mind.
Whenever anyone mention a cold bkup it means to shut down the database server.

I know the meaning of cold bkup is to bkup the database without any users using it

But does this include rebooting of the server(machine)?
Or is it even necessary to do so?

Thanks in advance

This does not include rebooting the machine.

Cold Backup - Shutdown all instances and listeners of a database.

Hot Backup - Using RMAN (Oracle) or a Backup Software Agent to backup the database while the database is still online.

Usually the system admin will make a script that will shut the database down for the backup then after it's done the script will bring up the database-
