Hi Experts,

I am familiar with SAP BW. I have heard that some companies use SAP BW and have report net of Cognos.
My question is: If your company has already SAP R/3 and SAP BW , why should you buy/use something as Cognos report Net.?
So in other words what benifits do you gain? Or are there not any?

Further the question the other way around.
What if you have cognos report net, why should you use SAP BW next to it?

Can any-one tell me that?

Thanks

Debdas,

BW is SAP's Data Warehouse product, which integrates tightly with the R/3 product and various modules. Where BW comes up short (IMHO) is from the perspective of an Enterprise Reporting Solution, specifically in the area of Presentation Layer (most notably Report Management and Deployment). ReportNet allows you to leverage the strengths of BW and addresses the Presentation Layer concerns -- it also allows you to merge other data (perhaps from a local data mart) which depending on who controls your BW instance, may be a tough sell (or simply not feasible) to import there...

It also provides some element of local/regional control/autonomy to the Reporting/InfoDelivery area which generally does not exist in the "classic" SAP designs out there, where such things like BW tend to be tightly controlled by corporate for enterprise wide metric/dashboard reporting....

Hope that answers your question,
