Cognos Version 6 and Oracle 9i

My DW guys want to upgrade to Oracle 9.2.0.3. We are still on version 6 and I know that even 7.1 doesn't support the version of Oracle they want to go to but I was wondering if anyone has tried to run version 6 against an Oracle 9i database using an 8.1.7 client? I did a small trial on a 9i db using Impromptu and Transformer which seemed to run OK but I'm very nervous about running the entire production system on an unsupported DB. Cognos's response was that it is unsupported but might work.

Any thought?

We have many reports running of 9.2 and it works correctly with Impromptu Client 6.0/6.1 and IWR 6.1. Graham.
