Hello,
If have the following issue:
I’ m currently building some projects in Cognos ReportNet in order to replace our (gigantic) catalog (more than 2000 tables and aliases).
In order to reduce the work on updates and other bug fixing, I’m trying to find out how to work in the best way.
The way I ‘m trying to work, is to build projects and use those projects in other projects.
For example in the “Patient” project (everything concerning patients), I want to use the “physician”(everything concerning physicians) project.
No problem, I add the “Patient” via “Link segment” and I join a table from the “Physician” project to a table of the “Patient” project.
Now when there is an update/change in the “Physician” project (e.g. I add a table) the linked “physician” in “patients” is also automatically updated. This makes me happy.
But, in the “Patient” project I need more than one link/join with the “Physician” project. (like the use of aliases in Cognos Impromptu)
For example we have the family doctor and we have the attending physician. Both must be “copies” of the “Physician” project and linked with different tables of the “Patient” project.
I encounter the following difficulties in order to get to this result.
1° It is not possible to “link segment” 2 times the same project.
2° A shortcut of a linked segment can not be joined with another table.
… This makes me not happy.
Can somebody give me an idea of the best way to proceed?
Thanxs,
Gregory.
