Scoop--Cognos Unveils PowerPlay 7.3
In its first upgrade in more than a year, Cognos, a leader in enterprise business intelligence (EBI) and corporate performance management, will announce the global availability of Cognos PowerPlay 7.3 tomorrow. Moreover, Mark Morton, senior product marketing manager at Cognos, told 5 Minute Briefing in an exclusive interview, lifetime sales of PowerPlay OLAP software has passed the $1 billion mark. "PowerPlay is the most deployed OLAP product," he said.

Among the key new features in Version 7.3 are the ability to create subsets of categories by rule and picklist over the Web; functionality that allows designers to create dimensional models that combine data from multiple data sources while controlling access to different levels of information in a data cube; and support for scenario-based planning. The new release also has a high performance data cache--cubes can contain more than a billion rows of data and two million categories--and enhanced integration with Microsoft Office products. Finally, Cognos has strengthened the Cognos Enterprise Business Intelligence Series by offering centralized information administration, distribution, and access of all BI. "OLAP is becoming more embedded," Morton noted. "End-users don't differentiate where information is coming from."

7.1MR3 <> 7.3. I can't see a download option yet either - perhaps we're too early for EST.

I've just finished watching the presentation on the web site - there's some good features for PPWeb- ranking and subsets in particular. There are a couple of changes to transformer - drill through can be set by dimension and level to different destinations and the 'if' function can be used in calculated measures. The latter might provide a way to 'screen' a measure according to the level with a value test.

I'm not blaming you.
I've just had a call from Cognos regarding EP and at the end, I asked 'when is the 7.3 download going to be available?'. I got the 'I'll get back to you' response. Should I indeed 'be got back to', I'll post back here or put up another thread if it's not announced on their site.

Just got a mail which says

With regard to your enquiry yesterday, the 7.3 will be ready for download in late August

Here's hoping that date will be revised to an earlier one...

Just wanted to provide everyone with an update in regards to this issue.

Series 7 Version has been launched, but is NOT yet available for everyone to download as it's in a limited release state. The general availibility release should be available, as mentioned above, in August.

Hope this helps to clear up some of the confusion.
