Hi

We have 3-4 packages published now, this resulted same number of folders in the Public Fodlers.

based on thezse packages i created report and all reports saved under a folder Reports.

Now for the end user, I want them from seeeing the package folders and want to let them see only the reports folder.

What i did was, i removed the rights for the package folders and given the access to Reports. But they cannot run the reports now becoz of access permissions to the package folder.

can anyone please suggest some way of doing this, or other better ways to arrange reports.

thanks and regards,
sudhi

Instead of removing permissions, you might want to let them have permissions, but change the visibility. This way they have access, but just cannot see the packages.

Sorry, i am not able to follow u.
we have Read, Write, Execute, Set Policy, Traverse permissions for the Package folder. If i want a user class not to see the package folder but allow them to run the reports based on that package, which are the rights i hav to grant and/or deny for the package folder.
thanks,
Sudhi

do you mean setting the Read to deny for the user class and giving permission to all the other type of rights?
Thats not working for me.

Package folder : test
User class | Read | Write | Execute | Set Policy | Traverse
Guest | Deny | Grant | Grant | Grant | Grant

user from Guest able to see the folder and get into it.

while publishin the package I have given User access rights to the Guest user class.

Make sure that they Everone user group has been reomved from the System Administrator group. Make sure that you add a VALID adminstrator account or you can potentially lock yourself out of CRN. Don't worry if this happens, we can fix it for you. :)

ok, in the System Administrators group I have Root user class, no one else. everyone is removed.

the test user belongs to User userclass and for that user class, in the package permissions i have denied the Read as u said. but still user can see the package folder, enter inside it.

sudhi

Has the read permission been given on the package folder or the reports? You can also remove the traverse permission on the package folder, this will stop users from entering the folder as well.

thanks for ur replies.

sorry if i am not making my question clear.

I got package folder (pkgFolder) and another folder (repFolder). I have placed all the reports created based on the package in repFolder.

When user logs in, I want to hide the pkgFolder from the listing but they should be able to run the reports based on that in repFolder.

1. hide pkgFolder
2. able to run reports in repFolder (reports created based on package pkgFolder)

thanks
sudhi

Hi Sudhi,
If I'm clear, You have to use the User Group "Consumers" to solve your problem. This group let users only to veiw the reports and nothing else.

check the UserGroups under Systems Administrator in Cognos Connection.
