Has any one had any success with setting the following parameter. Are there any dangers associated with sending an .xls file?
Description:
By default when you send by email Excel report the file extension is .html or .mht. You can change it to a .xls extension. To do this you must add a server parameter.
Solution:
In Server Administration, add "RSVP.FILE.EXTENSION.XLS" parameter to ReportService and BatchReportService.
Steps:
1. Open Cognos Connection.
2. Click Tools menu in the portal and select Server Administration
3. Check Services for Type (All services appear)
4. Select Set Properties for ReportService
5. Select the Settings tab
6. Find the property named Advanced Settings, and click the Edit... link
7. In the first empty set of boxes, type in the parameter name RSVP.FILE.EXTENSION.XLS and set the value to TRUE
8. Press OK.
9. Open Cognos Connection.
10. Click Tools menu in the portal and select Server Administration
11. Check Services for Type (All services appear)
12. Select Set Properties for BatchReportService
13. Select the Settings tab
14. Find the property named Advanced Settings, and click the Edit... link
15. In the first empty set of boxes, type in the parameter name RSVP.FILE.EXTENSION.XLS and set the value to TRUE
16. Press OK.
17. Restart the service.
