Hi,

We are new to Cognos, so are experiencing newbie difficulties.

We have created a prompt for a text field whose data is stored right-adjusted and blank filled (8 characters in all) in DB2. How can we set the prompt to do this function (right-adjust and blank fill the user entered data) for us? We currently have to use the 'contains' option to match up to the data, but this could bring back more matches than we want.

Thanks.

Check out the trim (ltrim/rtrim) function to get rid of leading/trailing spaces associated with char(8) defined fields.

note: "right-adjusted and blank filled"
is not really the right terminology. One normally speaks off 'leading' or 'trailing' spaces in fixed-width character fields (char)
