Hi,
If anyone has ever migrated to a Windows 2000,while using Cognos 6.0,I would like to know:
i)if there were any performance issues?
ii)if there were any, possible solutions.

we have just migrated from Windows Nt to Wind2k server, but the version of Cognos(Ver 6.0) reamined the same. I have noticed the performance of the reports go noticeably down. So,I would like to know if there any issues with Cognos6 running on Win2k.

thanks
bob

I am running Version 6.1 on Windows 2000. I started with 6.0 but found major bugs so upgraded. I din't find any obvious performance problems but I am mainly using a very large catalog (c7Mb) so I couldn't really comment.

The one major problem I encountered was when I tried to manage that catalog using Impromtu Admin on 2K - it got horribly corrupted on numerous occasions. I now use an NT4 machine to does those catalog edits without any problem.

CP,
yes, I plan to upgrade. We do have the Imp 7.0, but there are so many reports already built on Ver 6.0,and I am wondering if there would be an problems. From my experience,Impromptu doesn't automatically upgrade the reports, but instead asks if it needs to upgraded and saved.I don't want the users to go through this. I haven't done a large scale Version upgrade of Impromptu. If you ever did that, can you tell me the problem areas that i should look for?

Thank you
bob

All users get the new version and each can update their own reports if they have created them. If all the reports are created by the administrator, then the administrator can open all the .imr's and save them in the new version which is what we have done. I have been through upgrades since 3.5 and each time I lived. Now I look forward to the new versions. As always, make a backup of everything on one box, and test the new version for a month or so on a separate box before doing your conversion so that you can work out any problems that may occur in advance. Sometimes there are querks. But, that's Cognos. That is why you install your new version on a separate box and open up all your files and test them there first.
