I am looking at a Migration Path on a Win2000 server that is currently running Seagate Info 7.5, with 1 APS and 2 infoservers.

One of my options is to load C.E. 9.0 onto this same APS box.
Has anyone done this? If so do both versions execute properly?

Thank you;
Apollo

Hmmmm. Can't say I agree with mixing it up like this, but I cannot see any blatant conflicts. And I have not tried this.

There is a limitation where there can only be one APS, but with SI and CE, there is a different registration process and system database that would be queried.

The other architecture and file set is not the same, so this should not conflict.

The only place of concern, might be the export drivers, but 9 is storing these in the common files\2.0\bin and should for them there.

If you go, go safely my friend :)

And image your drive or back it up or whatever before you do this, just in case you need to roll back.

FYI

Just for fun, I set up a machine with both and it seems to be fine. Can easily view reports in both the CMC and Info Desktop either alone or at the same time.

Although I have not run it through anything rigorous, from what I see it should be okay. Kind of handy actually.

A logical question coming out of this migration might be this:

As I am infomred there are no on-hand utilities within
Crystal E. to perform backup/restore proceedures. Nor do I
get the feeling from the vendor that there will be in coming releases.

Do you know if there are third party companies that provide
the type of restore capabilities that would be required to
restore a single client report to C.E. after a uh-oh
delete?

By the way, I am going ahead using a new server to migrate to... It lowers the risk factors involved.

Thank you for you help.

Hi,
If you place your published reports on a different server
( specifying the locations in your Input and Output server
configurations) , or even if you don't , you can use scheduled backup jobs ( Windows) or Unix Cron jobs to backup those directories to CDRW or Tape or whatever...
The schedule is up to you, but remember - Sometimes you cannot protect a user from his/her own mistakes - if they have the ability to delete, they may have to face the consequences of ill advised actions- so the last backup may be from the night before.
