Hi, i need some clarification in Codec use, In my element manager Node setup all CODEC options are checked so which CODEC actually will be use for SIP trunks in My NRS? i mean where do we setup which CODEC will be use? and why all CODEC are checked in CODEC option under Node config. It is a preinstalled CS1000M rls 5.00
Thanks

a lot will have to do with zone setup best bandwith/best quality. (I don't know about the sip) if you have 711 & 729a, if you are not tapping out, it will run 711 if it can and choke to 729 if need be, but it can also be forced!

thanks BI. So it happens automatically? i mean system auto select whic CODEC should be use for all VoIP calls? i mean IP phones/SIP etc...i dont know why all codec are selected and which will be use
Thanks

I don't have them all selected. 711 and 729a. We had to do 711 for a 3rd party recording vendor in Fla, but went 729A after that. 711 is greye out but selected, 729a is selected and not grayed out. I have seen sets running both. I think a lot of other posters know a lot more about that than I do, hopefully they will post.

any body else could explain these codes selection config??

A zone is defined as either BQ (Best Quality - use G711 first then others) or BB (Band Bandwidth - use G729 first).

SIP and H.323 are signaling protocols, and are only used for call setup, modification, and teardown.

The speech-path is encoded/decoded using the various codecs (COder/DECoder)

The options you select for intra and interzone bandwidth management coupled with the codecs you have enabled in your node determine which codec is used.

If G.711, G.729, G.723 are all enabled in your node configuration, and a zone is configured to use BQ, then as long as there is sufficient Bandwidth G.711 will be used. If there is not enough Bandwidth for G.711, then G.729 will be used, etc.

If BB is defined in the zone definition, then whichevey codec you have enabled that uses the least amount of Bandwidth will be selected.

Obviously, if you only have 1 codec enabled in your node, then it will be used regardless of your zone preferences.
