Code persistence from templates to documents

I have added code to a button in a template but when I open the template as new the code does not follow the the button over to the new document ?
Can anyone help ?

Since you mention documents, I assume it's Word. Word templates are attached to the new document. Anytime the document is opened, the template is opened as well, so that the macros in the template are available. This is why the macros aren't copied along.
