Hi,

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm a newbie when it comes to css ...

Sometimes (when first accessed or cache just cleared) the actual code of my external .css shows in the frame which is meant to be displaying the chosen page, followed by a bit of the code of a drop-down menu and then the very bottom of the page formatted correctly.

Has anyone else had this problem?
Is it a problem with my css or html or the way the server is set up? (I've validated both the html and the css with W3C's validator)
Does anyone have *any* ideas/pointers?

Many Thanks

Show us the code or the "url" of the side, so we can see what happen. What kind of browser do you use?

Erik

I've put a copy of the pages here:

although the original is an intranet page and so no outside access.

The trouble usually (but not always) happens when you click on the broken image which says Enter the Learning Web which takes you to a frameset (

Using range of browsers - mostly NN 4.0,4.5 ... still trying to document when/if it happens in IE.

Thanks

Hi,

I'm sorry to say, but I can not simulate your problem. In both browsers I use (IE4 / NN4.73) the pages are viewed normal.

The only thing I know is that NN is verry precise with closing &quot;tags&quot; and I see that you don't close the <option> tags with </option>

If this isn't the problem, I don't think I can help you.

Erik

BTW, I saw a typo at the end of the first page:
I mean the <br /> in Matthew 5:4)<br /></div>

I'll correct the option tags and try again -

Thanks so much for your help anyway

I have seen this sort of thing. I had the problem awhile ago, however, before I got around to fixing it I moved to another project so I can't tell you how to fix it.

I think I was only getting the problem in Netscape 4.7, not in Netscape 6 or IE 5.

I have a thread going on it with a few suggestions that might help.

Thanks - your problem sounds exactly the same as mine!

However ......

I think I've sorted it out - you're right, it's a Netscape thing - N4.0/5/7 (the ones that I've tested) don't seem to like *external* cascading style sheets - as soon as I embed the style sheet in the page the problem seems to disappear (well, so far anyway!), then, first link I click on to page which still has an external css and the source code shows on the new page.

Now facing the probability that I'm going to have to embed my css in over 600 pages - unless I can persuade our ICT Team to upgrade the college to N6 ...

Thanks for all your help - much appreciated
