Hi, I am using a Gateway P-173XL FX laptop (vista 64). I had to format my hard drive two weeks ago (see my previous thread : "PXE-E53 No boot filename received"). I deleted the patitions, and formatted the hard drive (an SSD) with one partition only. All worked fine, and the windows updates were being done automatically, without any problem.
Suddenly, since yesterday, I had 20 important updates to do (some of them security updates), and they failed with code 80070490. I wasn't even able to do them manually one by one. I succeeded doing Office updates though...
I downloaded the System Update Readiness tool (Checksur.exe). It initialized all right, but the install stalls for ever, and nothing seems to be happening on the installing bar.
Any help would be appreciated.

Replying to my own thread:
After many tries, the System Update Readiness did install. However the code 80070490 error persists.
The second solution suggested by microsoft, "repair" for Windows, cannot be done, because, for an unknown reason, that option is grayed out when I use my windows install CD.
So, I am still stuck...

I saw that error once and there are many pieces of wisdom out there on troubleshooting this, but NONE of them helped me in any way. Solution: reinstall, again.

Does your hard drive pass the manufacturer's test?

Hi goombawaho, thank you for your answer.
Actually, I found a way: I have just hidden those 20 updates which were not working.
Then, ALL the subsequent updates worked perfectly well.
Probably those 20 updates were not meant to be on my laptop. Everything seems to work fine now.
Thank you for your time.
