customer has a mics 6.1 non xc, slot 4 is a dti, slot 3 is a ds, slot 2 is a 6 port fiber and slot 1 is service cartridge. my question is can I replace the 6 port fiber with a 6 port combo card with only a power down replace and reboot?

Yes, and remove the service card too.

If flori1 removes the Services cartridge and replaces its current 6-port Expansion cartridge with a Combination 6-port cartridge, he will end up with the same amount of DTMF receivers (and he will still get Alarm Code 63).

The XC software is only required to install a 6-port Expansion cartridge or a Combination 6-port cartridge in slot 1. A Services cartridge can always be installed in Slot 1, with or without the XC software.

I would also recommend leaving the services cartridge in place to give you more receivers.
