I posted this message at a place for Radeon ppl. If you think you can help, then reply. Please don't reply by saying to get the latest drivers, as I've done that many times, and yes, I've installed directX 8.0a a couple of times too! :)

I got my Radeon 64mb in FEB. I tried to install it on a 400mhz,256mb,

win2k system, but got ""This device cannot start. (Code 10)".

There error was found in Devicemanager|Radeon DDR|Properties.

I did a complete reformat of the HD, and reinstalled the OS, to find

out that the problem was still there. I reinstalled the Os again, and

still same problem. I then e-mailed tech support, got reply, and did

EVERYTHING they suggested in the bios, latest drivers...ect. Still same

problem.

I got fed up and put it away in the box and ordered a 1.2 gighrtz CPU

and MB. When they arrived, I installed them after taking out the other

MB and CPU. Got it up and running. Put the Radon in and fired her up. I

then reinstalled the drivers for the RADEON off the CD. They gave me a

"Make sure you have correct hardware" message.

I then did a clean uninstall, exept I couldn't find the

\*class*\display\0000 in the reg to delete. There was no subDIR of

class where it was supposed to be.

THen, after downloading the NEWEST official drivers off of the site, I

did a install, using the program that came with it. Also did all the

recommended BIOS\comos settings. Same error code!

I then do another clean uninstall, and try to use the "add new

hardware" wizard to install the drivers. That didn't work, as it

detected a "vga compatible", then it switched to "Radeon DDR,

installing" message. NEXT: another clean uninstall.

I then go into the temp DIR that was created, and right click on the

two INF files that are under the \drive DIR. Choose Install from the

right-click menu.

Restart. Same problem. "This device cannot start. (Code

10)"
.

Now this is where I am at right now. I'm STRONGLY thinking about

sending the card back for a replacement, however, the card does have a

"pass test" stamp on the back of it. I have NO CLUE what test this card

could have passed, besides a genaral

windows-was-able-to-recognize-it-is-there kind of test.

Please help!
Thanks in advance,
-Suthern

P.S. I've been running in the only modes availible. (60htz, 800X600X16)

My eyes are starting to hurt.

My first suspicion would be the adapter...a couple of ways to confirm that would be try another or try installing Win9x or Me and see if the same problem occurs.

I don't know much about this adapter, but has it been certified to work with W2K? Are the drivers released or Beta?
