I just thought that I would start a new "thread" with a SUGGESTION to those posting questions in this forum.
If you tell "us" what compiler (vendor - and release) and what operating system you have a QUESITON about
when you FIRST ask your question, then
the chances are better that you will get a "responsive" answer. It may also help you get a "useful" answer if you tell us WHY you are asking the question. If "we" understand your underlying "issue" we may be able to provide a "solution" to what you really want to know (or a reference or other useful hints).
If, on the other hand, you ask a "vague" (no details or background) question, you may get an answer to what you ASK - but not what you really want to know.

As the subject of this thread says, COBOL, itself, is remarkably "portable" but answers to many questions are NOT.
