I'm a university student, and I'm looking for a shareware/freeware COBOL compiler that will work with Windows 2000. Are there any out there?

Lots of them. Fujitsu is well known. IBM has a trial version of a visual age compiler. There is a free COBOL compiler downloadable on some sites - something with 650 in it or so - but that one does not support mouse and graphical screen. There is one busy to be born in Linux for free. [sig][/sig]

Also if the huge downloads are a problem, some books come with a CD ROM version included. For example, Mastering COBOL by Carol Baroudi comes with the Fujitsu compiler Crox mentioned and Casegan COBOL for Windows, a tool to enable you to develop full Windows applications in COBOL. The book is a decent one, I use it as the text in the COBOL course I teach, and it isn't all that expensive.
