I want to know what a good tester for coaxial (that is not expensive or to complicated) is and how to test---I use a toner and wand to locate Cat5 or or Cat3, 25/50 pairs, and a STM8 to test for continuity and tone on 4 pair cables--basic testing----is there such a basic tester for coaxial? I had heard about a product called Test-um???? I think that is it

Thanks for any info.

If the NT950 is too expensive for you, look at the NT700 and do some NET searching. You can find some good pricing with a little effort!

Hope this helps!

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions--I will read up on both and maybe try to get some feedback from techs that have the testers.

Thanks

If you need coax testing a Fluke MicroScanner Pro can do that quite well. It uses TDR technology for cable lenght and distance to fault. It would also be an upgrade from your current tone generator and STM8. Highly recommended.

The only advantage Test-Um has is price. However you get what you pay for.

Testers like those mentioned above will test for continuity, distance to short/open and with ID plugs will map installations.

If you need to test for coaxial cable performance then a sweep or broadband noise generator and a RF voltmeter or spectrum analyzer are required. Here is a thread:
