Just about ready to pull the trigger on finalizing our migration to 2010. However, I'd like to test our windows mobile devices with just one phone, my phone, before I move the mailboxes over.

Our current setup has our Exchange 2003 box as the primary. Everything mail.ourdomain.com is nat'd straight to the 2003 box. Nothing goes straight to the 2010 box coming from the outside.

My question is, can I move my mailbox from 2003 to 2010 and still expect my windows mobile device to sync even thought it's going to be going straight to the 2003 box first? Will 2003 redirect my phone to the 2010 box?

Here's the path I'm talking about, will it work? ::

Windows Moble 6.5-->mail.ourdomain.com-->our firewall-->Exchnage 2003--(redirect)-->Exchange 2010

I've tried moving mailbox back from 2010 and it's a nightmare, that's why I'm asking about this to see if anyone knows for sure...

Thanks

No, 2003 activesync will not redirect to 2010. As far as I know, (and I had this exact same issue on my network), you will need to have another dns entry for the 2010 server. Also, you will find that this needs to be the case anyway, as 2010 uses it's own URLs for a lot of stuff, and you are going to want to install a certificate for https to these urls as well.

I assume that you are looking to avoid have to change the account settings on every mobile device. Your best bet is to move everyone over on the weekend, and then change the firewall to point to the 2010 server.
